This is probably an ordinary house spider of the sort we get in England. Following discussion (see the comments here), it seems it may be a hobo spider, Tengenaria agrestis. ‘Agrestis’ means clumsy, not ‘aggressive’. I think it’s clear enough for an expert to identify it exactly. The palps show up really well. Also, the spinarets are visible at the end of the abdomen. I shook it a little to make it move about but it wasn’t too upset by the experience. tench626 left a comment saying that many spiders can be identified from their genitalia and there are diagrams in this book: “The Collins Guide to the Spiders of Britain & Northern Europe” by Mike Roberts.
